The birds are hadedas (so called because that is the racket they make when they take off!) - very good for aerating the lawn!

We didn't play in cassocks, we just processed to the volleyball court in them :-) There are others that aren't from SA here. The Province of Southern Africa covers Angola, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and the island of St Helena. I know we have students from Lesotho and Mozambique and there also is a student from Haiti. The staff are equally multinational from Zimbabwe, Mozambique and UK.

Hi Tom,
It certainly sounds like you are getting stuck in. It's funny to note that people, especially people who are forced to live and work together, are the same and have the same issues of grumpiness no matter where you are in the world. I find it encouraging somehow!
Life here is a bit manic as usual. Had a last minute order to go back to look at houses in Loggerheads yesterday and really hope that the matter will be settled soon as it's starting to make us all a bit grumpy! We saw a house, in the parish, that is not huge like the one in Market Drayton but is much more modest and still big enough. We are waiting to see if that will be the compromise that resolves all of the different folks desires and concerns... (and it seems that although we've been pretty quiet, there as been LOTS of peeps having a say about where we live!). Either way, God is good and all will be fine.
The kids have been off this week and I have not had 5 minutes to do any work so I'm camped out in the Library Seminar room for the day whilst Doug's Mom is visiting and having fun with Doug and the girls - I feel like a proper student today!
So marmalade is helping..? What is a typical day of eating like? Is there more socialising than you'd thought there'd be or are you really catching up on your sleep?
This place does feel different without you around...I think Ebony will just about cope but expect to have your shoes weed on when you return!

Hi Tom,
I'm glad your room is bigger and you are being well hosted and receiver of hospitality rather than giver for a change.
I'm going to enjoy reading your stories. I hope you're getting some extra sleep at last!

Great start - I'm very glad that OR Tambo airport didn't defeat you! I don't think President Reay is at all alone in wishing he was somewhere more southern right now. Have fun!

Hi Tom - was sorry I missed my chance to wish you well before the off, but I'll follow this blog with interest - all good things to you... as you may have heard the ground here is covered with semi-frozen slush, now with added grit, so the Southern Hemisphere's looking good..

Warm wishes

I was trying to think of some stability and routine that actually didn't have change in it, or is it just me that I see change (or the potential for change) in every thing?

Good point about best practices - I totally agree with the Alt.NET understanding of that there are many ways to do things, and one will fit for you
